It’s the perfect after-school activity for your active, funny, fun, talented kiddo.
Our approach at the Academy is to give our students the tools of the trade in fun, exciting and challenging performance-based lessons. We focus on skill-building regardless of age, experience or talent! Students are taught by degreed, professional, members of our Midtown Resident Company. These 10-week sessions will culminate in a fun performance of similar-aged classes. Parents and families are invited to these musical recitals at no cost. Concessions and Academy merchandise are for sale at these performances to help support our Student Scholarship Program.
Classes run at Midtown Arts Center January 14–March 29, 2019. Midtown’s recitals are April 2 & 3.
Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical comes to life on stage! Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities. With such memorable songs like “Stick to the Status Quo,” “Start of Something New,” and “Breaking Free,” this show is catchy, quirky, and tons of fun!
This full production of High School Musical will be directed and choreographed by Michael Lasris with music direction by Emily Erkman.

Taught by Midtown’s Resident Choreographer, Michael Lasris, this class will introduce students to beginner level tap skills. Soon, your young dancer will be shuffling off to Buffalo in the next tap-dance Broadway smash!

Got a tap musical coming up in school? Going to college for theatre soon? Make sure you’re a step ahead of your classmates and develop a key skill for the musical theatre industry. Taught at an escalated pace, this class is for 8th-12th grade beginning tappers who want to reach an intermediate level quickly.

Does your child LOVE to sing along with their favorite pop songs? Then Pitch Perfect is the way to go! They will learn proper mic technique, simple movement and choreography, and get their very own solo to perform. Miss Emily guides her students through class to not only help them improve their voices, but improve their confidence on stage as well. All while getting to sing songs they love!
This class will focus on singing and movement/dance to Disney shows found on Broadway. Students will learn how to combine song and movement/dance as well as have opportunities to work together to come up with their own movement and story-lines for their recital.

This class is centered on building proper ballet technique and strengthening. Gaining a knowledge and understanding of ballet technique will further students in other dance disciplines. Students will also build a lager dance vocabulary throughout the semester.
A one act play is a play written with no intermission and Is a a short and succinct glimpse into life in the theatre. One act plays have all the benefits of a full length show, but in a condensed atmosphere. In this class, students will be cast in a show, rehearse, and perform the final product. This class is a great first step for beginning actors, or actors who wants to advance their skills.
