2018 Spring Sessions

We have so much fun at the Academy!

It’s the perfect after-school activity for your active, funny, fun, talented kiddo.

Our approach at the Academy is to give our students the tools of the trade in fun, exciting and challenging performance-based lessons. We focus on skill-building regardless of age, experience or talent! Students are taught by degreed, professional, members of our Midtown Resident Company. These 10-week sessions will culminate in a fun performance of similar-aged classes. Parents and families are invited to these musical recitals at no cost. Concessions and Academy merchandise are for sale at these performances to help support our Student Scholarship Program.

Classes run January 15, 2018 – March 30, 2018.
Classes will not be held during PSD Spring Break, March 12-16, 2018.
RECITALS ARE APRIL 3rd & 4th, 2018.

All classes include an Academy T-shirt and a free recital at the end of the semester.

Beginner Tap 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
Come and meet those dancing feet while learning a classic American art form! Taught by Midtown’s Resident Choreographer, Michael Lasris, this class will introduce students to beginner level tap skills. Soon, your young dancer will be shuffling off to Buffalo in the next tap-dance Broadway smash!

Ages: Grades 3rd-8th

Advanced Tap 2

By invitation only.
$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.

This class, for advanced tappers, is available to experienced tappers in 8th-12th grade (or by invitation). In this class, students will learn advanced trick steps, develop complex syncopation skills, and establish the foundations of rhythm tap dance. This is the perfect class for students who excel at dancing and want to learn a new fun challenge.

High School Beginner Tap 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
Got a tap musical coming up in school? Going to college for theatre soon? Make sure you’re a step ahead of your classmates and develop a key skill for the musical theatre industry. Taught at an escalated pace, this class is for 8th-12th grade beginning tappers who want to reach an intermediate level quickly.

Adult Tap 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
Ever watch a tap musical and think, “I wish I could do that.” Well now is your chance! This class is for adults of all ages who want to learn a fun, energetic style of dance. The class will start at a beginner level and increase in difficulty as determined by the teacher. This is a great class for new students or anyone who hasn’t tapped in a while. Guaranteed to be a fun time!

3rd – 8th Intermediate Tap 2

Had some tap experience but not feeling ready for an advanced class? This is the perfect class for you! This is an ideal class for any experienced tapper who is still working on wings, pullbacks, and other trick steps. Hone your craft and develop into an advanced tapper!

Pitch Perfect 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
THE class to learn vocal versatility, proper microphone use, and solid choreography. We will perform songs from some of your favorite pop artists. You will get the chance to sing on your own, and learn to blend with the group. Start your journey to vocal prowess with Pitch Perfect!

3rd-5th Grade: Thursdays 4:30pm-5:30pm
6th-8th Grade: Thursdays 5:30pm-6:30pm

Voice Class for Adults 2

$309 until December 15. $359 if you register on or after December 16.
Learn proper technique and great vocal practice in a warm and inviting setting. Gain experience in group, as well as solo singing. Emily has been teaching adult voice students for 10 years. In addition to this class, each enrolled student will receive one free individual voice lesson to work on their specific voice. Now is the time to sing!

Give My Regards to Broadway 2

This fast paced and fun class combines the hits of Broadway past and present with dynamic choreography and staging . Get ready for “Another Openin, Another Show” and “Comedy Tonight” because “Everything’s coming up roses” for these kids! We have “Magic to Do” this semester, as your child becomes “The Greatest Star!” Hit shows such as Gypsy, Oliver, Annie, Kiss Me Kate from the Golden age will be represented as well as current hits Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, Legally Blonde, Something Rotten and more will be represented!

  • Kinder/1st Grades: Tuesdays 5:00pm-5:45pm with Jalyn Courtenay Webb in Studio 2. $259 until December 15. $309 if you register on or after December 16.
  • Grades 2nd/3rd: Wednesdays 4:15pm-5:15pm with Jalyn Courtenay Webb in Studio 2. $289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
  • Grades 4th/5th: Wednesdays 4:15pm-5:30pm with ABBIE HANAWALT in Theatre One. $309 until December 15. $359 if you register on or after December 16.
  • Grades 6th-8th: Wednesdays 5:30pm-6:45pm with ABBIE HANAWALT in Theatre One. $309 until December 15. $359 if you register on or after December 16.
  • Grades 9-12: Tuesdays 5:45pm-7:00pm with Jalyn Courtenay Webb in Studio 2/Ballroom. $309 until December 15. $359 if you register on or after December 16. **Dance is REQUIRED for the Grades 9-12. Hamilton 3

Join us as we continue to explore the incredible music of Hamilton. No prior class experience required. The music of Hamilton continues to resonate and inspire with all ages. “Wait for It”, don’t “take a break”, continue to go “non-stop” because “History has it’s eyes on you”!

Beginning Musical Theatre Dance 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
Students will develop cognitive and functional understanding of the foundational technique and movements of Musical Theatre Dance. Each class will begin with a full warm up, discussion of dance technique, integrated across the floor combinations, and routines taught in various musical theatre genres. Emphasis will be placed on proper alignment, body awareness, and character development.

Ages: Grades 4th-7th
Day/Time: Monday 4:30pm-5:30pm

Musical Theatre Dance 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
Each class will begin with a full warm up, discussion of dance technique, leaps and turns, integrated across the floor combinations, and various routines spanning musical theatre genres as well as standard Broadway audition combinations will be taught. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique, standard dance trick repertoire, storytelling through movement, and dance audition preparation.

Beginning Acting 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
Learn the basics of acting. We will be working on basic acting technique, rehearsal techniques with scene partners, and basic script analysis and character development.

Beginning Improv 2

$289 until December 15. $339 if you register on or after December 16.
Improvisation is the perfect way for teens and pre-teens to develop a sense of self –confidence and understand how to perform as a member of an ensemble – plus, it’s really fun. Class starts with focusing on group and ensemble play, shifts to scene and sketch work and culminates with students sharing their work at the end of the session.
